Son ombre,
ce que tout j'ai vu,
alors qu'il m'a quitté.
Je voudrais dire:
"La tarte aux pommes est prête
dans le four!"
Mais non.
J'ai seulement dit:
"La tarte aux pommes
tu attenderait;
reviens bientôt!"
Et son ombre en partirent,
je lui ai regardé,
toute seule.

a little fall of snow
This deluge of snow reminds me of one of my favourite songs (besides "On My Own") from Les Miserables:
A Little Fall of Rain
EPONINE
Don't you fret, M'sieur Marius
I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt me now
You're here, that's all I need to know
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And rain will make the flowers grow.
MARIUS
But you will live, 'Ponine - dear God above,
If I could heal your wounds with words of love.
EPONINE
Just hold me now, and let it be.
Shelter me, comfort me
MARIUS
You would live a hundred years
If I could show you how
I won't desert you now...
EPONINE
The rain can't hurt me now
This rain will wash away what's past
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
I'll sleep in your embrace at last.
The rain that brings you here
Is Heaven-blessed!
The skies begin to clear
And I'm at rest
A breath away from where you are
I've come home from so far
So don't you fret, M'sieur Marius
I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt me now
That's all I need to know
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
MARIUS(in counterpoint)
Hush-a-bye, dear Eponine,
You won't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt you now
I'm here
I will stay with you
Till you are sleeping
EPONINE
And rain...
MARIUS
And rain...
EPONINE
Will make the flowers...
MARIUS
Will make the flowers... grow...
(She dies. Marius kisses her, then lays her on the ground)
----------------
But Marius never loved her.
A Little Fall of Snow
A little fall of snow
Can hardly chill me now
You're here, that's all I need to know
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And snow will only make my heart grow colder.
A Little Fall of Rain

The Ballad of Reading Gaol
An interesting excerpt from Oscar Wilde's "The Ballad of Reading Gaol"
Yet each man kills the thing he loves
By all let this be heard
Some do it with a bitter look
Some with a flattering word
The coward does it with a kiss
The brave man with a sword
Do we let the sand trickle away, not ever realizing its warmth in our hands, till it's gone?
Before long,
leaves fall,
colors fade,
and summer is
gone with the winds
of time.
Yet each man kills the thing he loves
By all let this be heard
Some do it with a bitter look
Some with a flattering word
The coward does it with a kiss
The brave man with a sword
Do we let the sand trickle away, not ever realizing its warmth in our hands, till it's gone?
Before long,
leaves fall,
colors fade,
and summer is
gone with the winds
of time.

Trop ouvert, c'est mon erreur.
Pourquoi me rende faible? C'est toujours meilleur de n'ouvrir pas mon cœur; j’aurais dû tirer la leçon des mes erreurs.

Army-Navy weekend; Memories
Thursday, I went drinking with Pickles' friends Frederico, Dan and Xander; it was a great time. Friday marked the beginning of Army-Navy weekend. Met up with Cheng Han, Sam and Dan again. Last night, we went for a satisfying round of karaoke together with Peng Fei and his other three West Point friends. And the weekend's over; they're all gone.

Memories
The long rains fall
and fall, and fall.
Wintry cold outside,
heater-warm inside—
in my mind
where embers are stoked,
where memories
have a life of their own.
No sense of time nor place;
no need for that.
We were there—
that’s all that matters.
And in those memories,
Was that glance,
that smile
ever meant for me?
Or was it all just
a figment of my imagination,
fading as
waking dreams
always
do.
